Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat events are you running? You can now browse all of the U-Con events. That's the best place to go to find out exactly what's planned at any given moment. If there is a specific event that you want to run, you can tell us about it in the "Other Information" section of the sign-up form. How do I qualify to be an RPGA Judge? You do not have to be a rules expert to judge an RPGA event. The most important qualification is enthusiasm for the game and your part in it. To judge RPGA events at U-Con you need to be an RPGA member and you need to pass the Herald Level Judge test. It is a simple test of your D&D 3.5 knowledge and it is open book so you can use your 3.5 manuals to help you answer the questions correctly. Will there be slot zeroes? Most definitely. There's a space on the signup sheet for you to give us the info we need to help us get you into a slot zero game. What's a slot zero? The best way to prepare yourself to DM an event is to play in it first. A "slot zero" is RPGA parlance for scheduled opportunities for judges to get together and play the event before the convention. Think of it as a "con before the con". By doing this, the DM also avoids having to "eat" a module (i.e., lose the opportunity to play it because s/he's judged it). What are the incentives for judging?U-Con will give a free entrance badge to anyone who judges at U-Con. In addition, if you judge four slots we'll give you free tickets to to play in two other slots. (The convention has a total of eight slots.)Can I get free housing?Unfortunately, no. U-Con is on a shoe string budget. A good way to save money on a motel room is to share it with one or more other judges. I recommend you post to the judges mailing list if you're looking for roommate. You might also see if anyone on the mailing list who lives near Ann Arbor has crash-space. What's the best cheap motel in town?Your best deal is at either the Motel 6 or the Red Roof Inn on State St. (info below). These two hotels not only have the cheapest rates, but are also a straight shot from the convention which is also on State St. U-Con is working on brokering a discount with a local hotel, so check the home page for updates on hotel prices.
My question isn't answered here...Please send me an email. Be sure to put "U-Con" somewhere in the subject line. |
