The cost of U-Con is separated into badges and events. This separation gives you, the attendee, a lot of choice with respect to how much and when you want to participate.
Badges
The first thing every attendee needs is a badge. A badge gives access to areas like the exhibitors hall and the ability to play in events (with appropriate tickets). We offer multiple types of badges.
Types of badges:
- Weekend ($20 $15 preregistration, $25 $20 at the door, $20 $15 students)
- Friday ($10), Saturday ($15), Sunday ($15)
- Kids ($10, 12 and under, must be accompanied by adult)
- Gamemaster, Volunteer
- Exhibitor (with exhibitor tables only)
- Press (no play)
Most attendees will purchase either a Weekend or a Daily pass (prices above). The daily badges are good on their respective days and all other badges may be used all weekend.
Some attendees volunteer their time by running an event (Gamemasters) or working for our staff. Gamemasters submit their events ahead of time; event submissions must be received 3 weeks prior to the start of the convention. Volunteering requires at least four hours of time, but the work is not difficult.
'Kid' badges are available for children 12 and under. They are good all weekend, however children must be accompanied by a paying adult. Gamemasters have the final say as to who participates in their events and may restrict children from participation if maturity of the child or adult content of the game is in question. Refunds will be granted in such cases.
Limitations:
- No refunds after preregistration. (However, badges may be "upgraded" for the price difference. For example, a Friday badge can be converted to a Weekend badge for $15 $10.)
- Badges are non-transferable: only one person may use a badge. Swapping is grounds for expulsion from the convention WITHOUT refund.
- A deposit of $10 is necessary for gamemaster badges. Volunteers must pay full price and receive a refund when their hours are completed.
Events Tickets
Most events require an event ticket to participate in addition to a badge. The gamemaster will collect the event tickets at the start of a game.
If the gamemaster does not show or there are not enough players, please bring your ticket to operations for a refund.
Limitations:
- Refunds permitted up until 1 hour following the start of the event.
- Players must also have a badge to play in each event.
Generic Tickets
These tickets are good for most games of the convention, though a game will require 1-4 tickets depending on its price. Event-specific ticket holders are always given first priority, but players with generic tickets will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Limitations:
- Players must also have a badge to play in each event.
- Some events cost multiple generics so that the cost is the same as players with specific event tickets.
Ribbons
We have a new option this year, designed for people who would rather pay once than by event. We are offering a $15 "Play Games All Weekend" event ribbon, which you can use to get into almost any event without using individual tickets. This is an economical option if you plan to stay more than one day.
Limitations:
- No refunds after preregistration.
- Ribbons are non-transferable: only one person may use a ribbon. Swapping is grounds for expulsion from the convention WITHOUT refund.
- Ribbons only allow access to events which are not otherwise full. Specific event ticket holders are given priority, with additional players taken on a first-come first-serve basis.
- Exceptions apply, which are listed in the event description.
