Volunteer Check-In

If you signed up to volunteer or are considering helping out, this message is for you.

Thank you for volunteering at U-Con! The convention runs smoothly (and the Operations Lead can catch a nap) thanks to your time and support.  Please review these quick notes on volunteer check-in and shift procedures before you arrive.

Badge Pickup

If you already have an assigned volunteer badge, you can use the main Registration line to pick it up when you arrive. Registration is located in the main lobby near the front entrance.  If you do not have a badge yet, check in with the Ops Captain on duty at registration to get signed up. If you need shifts assigned, please request to talk to the Operations Lead to get that sorted out.

During Your Shift

At your scheduled time, report directly to your assigned station.

  • Setup/Teardown and Registration Volunteers: Check in with the Ops Captain on duty at the Registration Desk.
  • Games Library and Learn To Play Volunteers: Check in at the Games Library, located at the back of the Board Game Hall. If no one is present there, please speak with staff at Registration.
  • Auction Volunteers: Please check in at the auction area in Auditorium 1

If you want to pick up additional shifts, here are areas we we could use a hand:

  • Daily Setup/Teardown: Lifting and pulling carts, moving equipment between storage areas or vehicles, setting up tables and signs at registration and gaming areas.
  • Registration Volunteer: Assist attendees and elevate concerns when necessary.  Requires sitting at the desk or moving rooms or floors or both.
  • Games Library Volunteer: Manage the games library, including check-in and check-out of board games. Must be able to lift and move games.
  • Learn To Play: Teach pick-up board games by the Games Library Open Table area.  You can bring your own games or use ones at the library.

If you’re new to the volunteering team, it’s a two step process.

  1. Apply as a volunteer on the Tabletop Events site
  2. After your approval email arrives, return to the volunteer application, click “Shifts” then “Choose Shifts,” select the shifts you want and then click “Submit Shifts”
