Partners: We Hate Bards

At their core, We Hate Bards are group of dedicated GM’s that run the kinds of games they would like to play in. Their strength lies in the diversity of games they run, from horror to anime comedy to traditional fantasy and everything in-between, and in their GMs’ ability to bring consistent quality and fun to the games they run.

Us as Bards, the moment before the crowd turns on us and gets violent
Peter at Dreamchaser had this commissioned for his dreamchaser RPG game. It’s us as Bards, the moment before the crowd turns on us and gets violent.
Why do they keep coming back? “U-Con is an amazing convention that we fell in love with the first time we attended.  While other conventions add on roleplaying games, at U-Con roleplaying games are the main attraction. The staff at U-Con has always provided a welcoming atmosphere and has been more than accommodating to our sometimes unorthodox style of running games.  We Hate Bards cannot say enough good things about this convention.”
The group itself started in Matt’s old apartment where we were disparaging how we could not find any other roleplayers to play in our games and were tired of playing in lackluster games  and having players who failed to show up session after session.  So we decided that instead of just complaining about it, we would do something to elevate the hobby and bring more dedicated players and GM’s together, and in that out group was formed.  Now about the name, that is a more of an old inside joke from an online campaign we ran over facebook at the same time we created the group.  Our friend who was GMing wanted to do a play by post, but we had other ideas, and the first thing our little band of murderhobos did was to kill the local bard in the tavern because we decided we did not like him.  Then afterwards our group went on and on about how much we did not like him and glad he was gone and spent the entire night posting about the bard that we had killed for no good reason.  This quickly became a running joke and when we were thinking of names of course the bard came up, and the rest is history.

About

Nick runs U-Con's social media. He got re-involved with board gaming when he found a mostly intact copy of HeroQuest at a garage sale. He started volunteering at U-Con in 2015. His current favorites are Bunny Kingdom, Viticulture, and Star Realms, but he's always looking for the next great game.
