COVID Policy Clarifications

U-Con is less than two weeks away, and we wanted to provide clarifications on our COVID policy. Please note, we are not changing any of our policies that are listed here. Masks are still required, vaccinations with one booster or a negative PCR test gathered within 72 hours are still required to pick up an attendee badge.

For providing proof of vaccination, you may bring your physical card to show or you may bring a photograph, either digital or physical, to pick up your badge. Pictures from your smart phone do qualify for this requirement, as long as they are legible and traceable to each individual legal ID. We will not be requiring any type of app for this check.

We are not requiring the new bivalent boosters from Moderna or Pfizer as one of your booster vaccination shots. We do think they are a good idea if you are eligible. Appointments for these boosters are available for those in the United States.

While we will be enforcing our mask policy for staff, volunteers, and attendees of the convention, we are not allowed to enforce this policy on the hotel staff. We have informed the hotel and convention center about our masking policy. Many of the hotel staff are unionized and their working agreements with the hotel supersede any requests we have with them.

  1. I think your Covid policy is going overboard. These are not even CDC guidelines. Demanding a booster shot on top of vaccinations or the expense of a PCR test and having to wear a mask all w/e?!? The president said the pandemic is over.

    • At this stage we have to stick with the rules we’ve said we will follow, since people have committed to the con based on the precautions we said we would have in place. Hopefully, we won’t have to do any of this next year.

      • And I believe you are losing more gamers who are not willing to go thru the unnecessary, costly and uncomfortable steps you are putting in place for the minuscule few who feel that they need to be protected from everyone. Even just lifting the PCR mandate for VACCINATED individuals would lessen the hassle and cost for many compared to the tiny fraction of those who would have an issue with that change in policy.

        • Thank you for your comments. Again, we hope that none of this will be necessary next year. Please note that the negative PCR test is only required if you do not have your vaccination plus one booster.

  2. For many of us we appreciate the Con staff’s stance on Covid and precautions. While many may feel this is an unnecessary precaution. Other also feel that these steps are a simple process to insure the safety of ourselves and our loved ones. Thank you Con staff.
