Your U-Con Games Library

Your U-Con Games Library

One of the boardgame highlights of U-Con is that the entire Games Library shows up in its full glory. This year, that is 714 games from all sorts of themes, all sorts of styles and all sorts of eras. I just refreshed the inventory page so if you are curious what games the Library has, take a look at our Games Library Inventory.

“But how do I play a game from the Games Library?” you might ask. The answer is simple: come to the library (located in the far corner of the Ballroom), show your badge, ask for a game, and sign it out. There are 9 Open Gaming Tables (usually covered in black table cloths) right in front of the Library that you are welcome to use to play your game.  The Library also has a stash of Green Cones so that if you want more players, you can set a cone up at your table to signal that you would like more players.  When you are through with your game, pack it up and bring it back to the Library and sign it back in. That’s it. Easy peasy, gameboard squeezy.

The Games Library is great for testing out games that you think you might like but are unsure about dropping money on. Times are tight and there is nothing sadder than game purchase regret.  The Games Library has a master book that lists all the games alphabetically – or you can browse the shelves which are also more or less alphabetical. The master book also lists games by min player/max player, time of play, and suggested age.  Have 11 people you want to game with? The Max Players pages will point you towards Welcome To….  Only have 15 minutes to play between events? Flip to Scout and check it out. Have a young gamer in training? The min age page will suggest Loch Nest. If you don’t see the game you want, fill out a suggestion form (also located at the Games Library). I have a budget and am always looking for suggestions.

Other things located at the Games Library is the Game Piece Lost and Found bucket. Did you pack up your game and find you were missing a meeple? It might have been turned into the Lost and Found bucket.  Did you find a random Dominion card on the floor? Bring it to the Lost and Found bucket.  Our goal is to reunite game pieces with their games because trying to get replacements can be a whole adventure.

Speaking of lost, if you arrive at U-Con but your game hasn’t, don’t panic.  If the Games Library has a copy of your game, we will gladly reserve that copy for you during your game time. You can come by the Library and arrange to have your game set aside. Then when you need your game, ask for it and sign it out.

Lastly, come by during any of the “Learn to Play” sessions. People have signed up to teach any number of games (some themed, some not) and if any of these interest you, they will be happy to go through the game(s) with you.
