An Introduction to Ultimate Chaos: Sample Game Part 2

In part 1, we left our players Cardinal Fang (playing On the Edge), Cookie Monster (Munchkin), Beaw (Netrunner), and The Brit (Magic: the Gathering) just after The Brit had completed a successful run against Beaw’s HQ, stealing a 1-point Agenda.  Any rules mentioned below come from the Rules of Engagement from my website.

Round 4

  • Cardinal Fang plays another Duro-Trench on Jack Rack, looks around the table, and mutters something about elderberries.
  • Cookie Monster draws and plays Elf, along with Half-Breed, and then Loots the Room.
  • Beaw plays an additional Ice on his secondary data fortress, and advances a card within it by two points.
  • The Brit decides to try her luck with the Kavu Predator again and runs Beaw’s R&D (his deck).  Beaw chooses not to rez the Ice in front of it, and begins whimpering when The Brit reveals the top card of the deck to be a 3-point Agenda.

Round 5

  • Curses!Cardinal Fang draws a card, lets out a small whoop and plays an Underground Contacts card.  He follows it with Eliza Smith (3/6, +2/+0 versus non-Humans), and attacks The Brit’s currently 4/4 Vigean Hydropon (using OtE rules).  Cookie Monster being uninterested in trading for more land, The Brit is unable to respond, and the Hydropon goes to the graveyard, sending its load of +1/+1 counters back to the ziploc baggie.
  • Cookie Monster Kicks in the Door and draws a Level 1 Drooling Slime… which as a Level 1 Half-Elf with no bonuses he is unable to defeat.  He offers The Brit the Island he has in play if she helps, since by default all players are Level 1 characters in Munchkin.  The Brit is uncertain until Cookie points out that the by Rule VI:  Homology the best fit for the Island in Munchkin is as a Treasure, and Treasures received in trade can be played immediately.  The Brit goes for the offer, adding the untapped Island to her mana supply.  Cookie Monster gains one level, and draws and plays a +4 Spiked Codpiece.
  • The Brit then argues that Cookie gaining a level is equivalent to gaining Life, and thus the Kavu Predator should get a +1/+1 counter.  After some debate the players decided Level and Life weren’t close enough to be covered by Homology, and vote no.
  • Beaw scores the 2-point Virus Breeding Ground Agenda in his somewhat overbuilt data fortress, destroying it.
  • The Brit makes a run on Beaw’s R&D with the Vigean Graftmage.  Beaw scrunches up his little face as The Brit passes through the unrezzed Ice, but she only looked at the top card and put it back.

Round 6

  • Cardinal Fang twirls his mustache, and declares that since Cookie says he’s a 1st Level Human, he’s going to Kick Down the Door.  After a moment of stunned silence, The Brit nominates him for a victory point, and receives universal agreement.  Fang draws a Dwarf card from the Door pile, and puts it in his hand.  Breathing a sigh of relief, he announces Step 2 in his cunning plan: He Looks for Trouble, playing from his hand Dr. Paulo Montserrat, who (using OtE rules as allowed by Rule V: Attack Flexibility) is easily dispatched by Jack Rack.  With battle over, The Brit claims that since Paulo has two Pull, she’s entitled to two Treasures in addition to the normal gain in level, bringing her to Level 2, which is equivalent to having an Influence score of 2 by Homology.  The other players look at each other, and faced with an extended rules argument, agree to just award her another Victory point for sheer chutzpah.

So, at the end of round 6, Cardinal Fang is suddenly in the lead with 3 Victory Points, followed by Cookie Monster with 2, The Brit with 1, and poor Beaw without a sausage.

Hopefully, these sample turns give a sense of how Ultimate Chaos is played.  If it sounds like your kind of game, please sign up once pre-registration begins.
